Four books about liking who you are, with brown girls on every cover. This is the bundle I would hand a six year old who has started noticing that the kids in her books do not look like her.

What's in this bundle

Izzy Gizmo by Pip Jones, illustrated by Sara Ogilvie. Hardcover. Izzy is an inventor, and her inventions malfunction, and she keeps going anyway. A Black girl engineer as the hero, which is still rarer than it should be. Kirkus called it sorely needed.

Like Sunshine On an Otherwise Miserable Day by Dr. Kelly M. Byrd, illustrated by Patricia Vásquez de Velasco. Written by a school speech and language pathologist who founded Love for Literacy, a program built around giving Black children mirrors in the books they read.

Beautiful Bellas by Stacy McAnulty, illustrated by Joanne Lew-Vriethoff (Scholastic). A bilingual English and Spanish edition about all the different ways a girl gets to be beautiful, including messy, muddy and dressed as a pirate.

I Like Myself! by Karen Beaumont, illustrated by David Catrow. An exuberant, rhyming, wild-haired ode to self-esteem. Inside, outside, upside down, from head to toe and all around.
